Even the most conscientious diner occasionally finds himself in the awkward position of wondering what the appropriate tip should be for service in a restaurant. There are some people I know who are generous tippers, sometimes to an extreme degree. Then, there are stingy ones who always seem to short the server by just dropping some change on the table, or throwing a couple of singles down when the bill is clearly more than $35. These are both pretty major faux pas, but with a little study, you'll be tipping like a pro in no time.
We all have our favorite restaurants, and favorite menu items. While it's in most peoples' nature to stick to what they know when dining out, trying something new once in a while can really expand your horizons. One of my best dining out experiences was when I tried something besides Pad Thai, all I had ever ordered previously, at my favorite Asian restaurant. Instead, I went for an Indian dish called Aloo Gobi which featured tender potatoes seasoned with turmeric and other spices, peas, tomatoes, and garam masala. It was delightful in every way and replaced Pad Thai as my favorite meal...

Millions of people love peanut butter. Certainly, some people should never go near it either because they are deathly allergic to peanuts -- or just plain can't stop once they start eating the protein rich but fairly fattening substance. Peanut butter, for those who can maintain some sense of moderation and are not allergic, has a lot of omega 3 fatty acids, considered to be an essential nutrient for the human body. Most brands today no longer contain trans fats of any kind, especially the offerings from major supermarket brands that are labeled "natural." Often, that means there is no sugar...
It's summer, It's hot... everyone is racing to the ice cream shop to grab a cool, creamy treat. Ice cream has been a summer favorite for years. Ice cream dates all the way back to the Persian Empire when they mixed the juice from fruits with snow to create an ice cream like substance. Later ice cream was modified to use dairy products and began a series of new ways to create the creamy treat.
Ice cream first came to the United States in the 18th century when one recipe for the ice cream was published. In the beginning people were keeping their recipes safe with home security wireless systems....
Dresses and heels escorted by hansom suits arrive at a perfectly set table, their chair is pulled out and awaits their arrival, napkins are delicately draped across their lap and then the men fill their own chairs. What image do you get in your head? I picture a beautiful dining room with elegant low lighting filling the space, crisp white table cloths, sharp black napkins folded to perfection with so many utensils that you can't possibly imagine what all of them could be used for placed at each side. Soon a waiter arrives in a white button down shirt, black slacks, and a black apron. He is holding...
Wheels and food intertwining is not an entirely new concept. Walking along a big city street, who doesn’t love the symphony of aromas emanating from hot pretzel and chestnut carts, hot dog street vendors, shish kabob hawkers and the like? While driving on a highway, it’s not so out of the ordinary to spy a hot dog truck nestled alongside the road to feed hungry travelers. And of course, it’s not officially summer until you hear the jingle jangle of the ice cream truck rolling through the neighborhood.
That being said, the recent emergence of so many different types and varieties of meals...
Let’s face it; it costs a bundle to eat out these days. Even the fast food chains have gotten on the, let's raise our menu prices. In the fast food realm many have switched to the popular dollar menu, however if you order a hamburger you will be lucky to find the beef. At any rate the bun will fill you up somewhat.
Money is tight so if you are among the fortunate to venture to a restaurant to enjoy a wonderful, (expensive) dinner then you want to go to a trusted name in eateries. Or maybe you are adventurous and prefer to take a chance with your money on a restaurant that you have never been...
Everyone at one point in time or an other has, or will have a meal at a restaurant, that they just have to have the recipe for, or try to recreate themselves at home. Depending on what restaurant you are dining at, some will be more than happy to share that recipe with you and others can not because it is against the restaurant's policy.
If you can not get the recipe from the chef, or the manager, or owner of the restaurant, you will more than likely be sitting at your table throughout the rest of your meal trying to taste, identify, and figure out every single ingredient that has been placed...
